This programme is part of UNICEF’s “Reaching and Empowering Adolescent Girls in Northwest Nigeria” (REACH) program, which aims to close the gender gap in education by keeping girls in primary school and supporting their transition to secondary school. It also seeks to support the organization of adolescent girls’ groups, both in and out of school, to work on life skills and empowerment, addressing gender norms for girls (Girls for Girls), as well as involving young boys (He for She groups) to address harmful masculinities. The programme also focuses on providing education opportunities for married and pregnant adolescent girls who cannot return to school, ensuring literacy and livelihood opportunities, and integrating with gender-responsive health services to reduce maternal mortality.
