Profile
Samson Olusina Bamiwuye (Ph.D.) is a Demographer and a Statistician with 26 years of professional experience as a lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), a researcher, and a consultant. Prof. Bamiwuye served as Head of the Department of Demography and Social Statistics, OAU for two years and as the Vice-Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences in the 2013/2014 academic session. He also served as a member of the Steering Committee of Population and Reproductive Health Programmes of OAU, IFE/Bill and Melinda Gates Partnership between August 1, 2009, and July 31, 2011.
Prof. Bamiwuye has extensive experience in data management and analysis. He has successfully established himself as a resource person for capacity building in statistical data analysis, monitoring and evaluation, and research methodology. He is a MEASURE Evaluation Fellow (2004), a Rostock Fellow (2007), and a DHS Fellow (2010) in the analysis of Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) data.
Prof. Bamiwuye has engaged in consultancy activities with National and International Agencies in the following thematic areas; HIV and AIDS, Reproductive Health, Census Methodology, Strategic Planning, etc. He has worked as a consultant to organizations such as; the Centre for Population and Development Activities (CEDPA) Nigeria, Centre for Development and Conflict Resolutions (CEDCOMS), UNFPA, Centre for Research and Evaluation Resources and Development (CRERD), UNICEF, and Family Health International (FHI), Nigeria, National Agencies for the Control of HIV and AIDS in Nigeria (NACA), Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), etc.
Prof. Bamiwuye served as the European Union Expert for the Nigerian 2006 Population and Housing Censuses and the UNFPA expert for the 2008 Sudan Population Census. He also provided technical assistance to Family Health International, which led to the development of a Policy Document on Strengthening Nigeria’s Response to HIV and AIDS in 2005. He participated in the development of the Strategic Plan Document for the National Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NACA) – Nigeria HIV and AIDS Policy in 2008 and Strategic Framework and HIV/AIDS Policy for Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN).
Prof. Bamiwuye is a member of several professional bodies like UAPS, IUSSP, PAA, and PERN. He has published widely in reputable international and local journals and has attended several national and international conferences.
